My kitties! Snoozing! They hate each other so the fact that they are so close is awesome.
Power point thoughts
Less is more - words, features. Key words on screen. You are still the teacher.
I like big pictures, when people use the whole screen for a picture.
From Power Point Tips file:
Show image with no words. Say them. (What kind of graphics could I use to better explain library things? Evidence? Screen shots of how to access materials? Like the simple graphic in the example. Sharp pictures - get pictures of people using the resources, stack of $20 bills to show we are paying for resources, you should use them!).
Darker background more pleasing to the eye. Dark background image blends in better. Instead of just goals, said "3 goals" and numbered them. All caps for title and underline. Image on the left right to the edge of the screen - that looks cool (better than centered). Takes up half the screen instead of smaller picture.
Stronger to have ONE big image with a word. More slides than cramming it all on one but could talk about it for a few minutes. "Don't tell the whole story in your slide." Took up 4 slides rather than 1 but kept interest longer.
Limit the info on one slide - have them appear one at a time, or on a new slide so people don't read ahead and miss info.
Font size is tailored to importance of the message - title larger, facts smaller. Always working to get fewer words on the screen. Reading L to R, top to bottom so L top is most important.
Plan all your content first and then organize (instead of just going right to making the slides). Decide what you will start with.
How are you setting up the room?
Have a back up plan. (Handout, have it accessible online so everyone can just follow on their own computer, etc.)
Base for evaluation sheet. Translates concepts into clear language.
Ideas for when to use Pecha Kucha style - 20 slides for 20 seconds each.
Advertising a new resource/feature. Starting a new chapter/module. Only takes 6 minutes and 40 seconds! Spend the next few minutes after debriefing/group discussion. Pecha Kucha on e-Resources.
